As part of this blog’s mission, we strive to empower women and girls to find their purposeful mission. So, of course I need to spotlight my good friend, colleague and idea bouncer Candi Sterling. We will get all into Candi’s brands, businesses and super inspiring upcoming collaboration in the below Q&A.
Candi and I were pretty much insta-friends when we met over a decade ago at an empowering business conference for entrepreneurs. Today, Candi continues to dedicate time for both learning and sharing knowledge as a public speaker and the leader of her two growing brands.
Candi Sterling is a custom cosmetics specialist and the creative director of Candi Marie Beauty

Attention! This is the genius/artist who creates THE BEST natural foundation, which she customizes to my skin type and gives me and my melasma extra coverage, sunblock, and moisturizer! No lie, I cannot live without it and have found that my skin has improved. I’m also able to add essential oils because of its natural ingredients. But I digress, this is about Candi’s other amazing business today…)
Candi is also the founder of the women’s personal brand platform On Her Mission, which we will be getting all into during the Q&A.
Although she has been traveling throughout Europe much of this season, she is just churning out the inspiring work! I caught up with Candi while she is overseas and we discussed her background, booming businesses and how she is empowering women everywhere to live their purposeful life!

Q&A WITH CANDI
Q: How do you live your passion through your businesses?
A: I believe passion is essential when it comes to the work we do and the impact we have on others. My passion is helping women to powerfully cultivate their own brand of signature style and success through Candi Marie Beauty and On Her Mission.
Together, these brands endeavor to help women succeed from the inside out. Candi Marie Beauty provides personal image services and resources, as well as content that promotes confident living. That brand has some exciting new updates coming in 2020, including an all new online beauty journal.
On Her Mission is a sister brand, where the focus on is personal brand mastery, which also overlaps with personal and professional development for women. I’m very excited to be leading both of these initiatives because my goal is to provide knowledge and solutions that I wish I had access to when I was first starting out.
Q: Tell us about your background and your path.
A: After graduating undergrad with a BA in journalism/performing arts from the State University of New York/New Paltz, Manhattan was my next destination. My professional path began primarily with consulting and growing a communications skill set that I applied to multiple sectors in various locations over the course of a decade. During that time, I learned how to creatively market myself and the various projects and brands that I was tasked with representing.
In 2016, I became intrigued by the beauty industry, particularly how I could have an impact through custom cosmetics and sharing beauty knowledge. I took the necessary training to become a custom cosmetics specialist, skincare consultant and makeup artist, fully immersing myself in learning the art of beauty. Soon after Candi Marie Beauty was established, I knew that I also wanted to focus on a deeper side to confidence and personal presentation. This is why On Her Mission was created.
There are many amazing websites and professionals dedicated to helping women grow successful businesses, either as women in corporate or as entrepreneurs. The goal of On Her Mission is to support the woman behind her business by focusing on personal brand mastery.
Q: So how did you get to where you are today?
A: I am, and always will be a woman on her journey. Today, I’m proud to be leading two brands that I believe can make a difference in the lives of the women we work with. One of my personal character quirks that has helped me along the way is an appetite for knowledge.
In 2017, I decided to once again hit the books and started working on a masters of science in Library, Information Science and Technology via Simmons University. I completed my degree in May 2019 and it was certainly a challenge to balance academic obligations and the business world simultaneously. However, despite the late nights, often times followed by early mornings, I was determined to make it work.
In the end, the research, technology and information management skills I acquired through this particular science discipline has been a great asset in business and brand development for both Candi Marie Beauty and On Her Mission. My final independent study and research paper was on Information Behavior and Knowledge Needs of Female Entrepreneurs Managing Web-Based Businesses, and I learned a great deal while studying this original topic.
Based on my research and personal experience, I believe that professional education is equally (if not more) important as an academic one –especially for women in business. Throughout the years I have made a habit of attending workshops, trainings, talks and professional conferences, which is exactly how I met Tracy!
That brings me to another important point. The people you meet along the way are 100% a very critical part of the journey and the success one can have while on it.
Q: Which of your collaborations meet your mission to empower women?
A: My goal with every endeavor is to reach and empower as many women as possible. I am currently part of the Believe Inspire Grow (B.I.G.) Connecticut leadership team (B.I.G. is a women’s empowerment membership community) and spent 2019 representing my country of birth as International Ms. Jamaica. My platform under that title has been focused on empowering women in business & entrepreneurship through various appearances and partnerships.
As we prepare to move into a new year, I’m very honored that On Her Mission has the opportunity to partner with Transform Your Performance (TYP) on a program to help women in business Succeed Through Purpose. For this program, we are working with Forbes featured international speaker, author and TYP founder Regina Huber.
The focus of this upcoming program and free online workshop is learning the power of the mastermind process.
